Identifying Your Skin Condition
(Required for Totally Yours
orders)
DRY SKIN
Develops as a result of underactive sebaceous glands.
Also results from the ageing process as sebaceous gland activity slows
down. Dry skin tends to be dehydrated. Its lack of oil diminishes its
ability to retain moisture since oil on the skin acts as a natural barrier
against moisture loss.
CHARACTERISTICS
PORE SIZE - Closed / small / invisible.
COLOUR - Pearly pink.
TEXTURE - Fine /
thin.
BLEMISHES - Not oil related, dehydrated,
visible fine lines, often sensitive, tendancy for capillary damage.
NORMAL
SKIN
Perfect hydration, muscle tone, looks soft, moist. Has
a healthy glow and colour. The corneum layer shows a fine texture, there
are no visible wrinkles, fine lines or open pores. Ageing is the primary
factor that deteriorates normal skin. Other factors include insufficient
water intake or unbalanced diet.
CHARACTERISTICS
PORE SIZE - Visible.
COLOUR -
Even peaches and cream complexion.
TEXTURE - Fine to
medium, soft to touch, no blemishes.
OILY
SKIN
Oily skin is a hereditory condition that develops due to
over-active sebaceous glands. This can be controlled by androgens.
It can be recognised by its shiny, thick and firm appearence.
CHARACTERISTICS
PORE SIZE - Enlarged, visible.
COLOUR - Looks unclean, greasy.
TEXTURE -
Shiny, thick and firm.
BLEMISHES - Usually on chin or
forehead area.
DEHYDRATED
SKIN
One of the most common skin conditions (especially in
Australia) . It means a lack of sufficient moisture in the cellular
system. Dehydrated skin looks dry, scaly and flaky. It feels tight
when gently pulled and crinkles up. It is caused by excessive
perspiration, poor metabolism and insuffient water intake.
CHARACTERISTICS
TEXTURE - Looks flaky and thin.
BLEMISHES - Cappillaries may be visible, prone to fine
lines.
SENSITIVE / ALLERGIC
SKIN
A sensitive skin reaction can express itself as redness,
itching, burning and in severe cases develop small liquid filled pustules.
Sensitivity can affect dry or oily skin. It is usually aggravated by
particular ingredients eg. chemical preservatives, artificial colours and
synthetic fragrances.
CHARACTERISTICS
COLOUR - Flushed appearance.
TEXTURE - Usually dry it feels hot to touch.
BLEMISHES - Cappillaries close to surface.
AGEING / MATURE
SKIN
Ageing skin can be recognised by its poor elasticity and
sagging due to the loss of collagen and elastin. The accentuation of lines
and wrinkles as a result of increased dryness and dehydration are caused by skin
thinning and the decrease of oil gland activity. Skin ageing is connected
to a deficiency of nutritional components in different tissues, cellular
destruction through excessive sun exposure and the effect of free radicals on
the cellular membrane.
CHARACTERISTICS
TEXTURE - Lacks elasticity. Does not regain shape
quickly when gently pinched.
